THE BINDING OF FENRIR

$65.00

Handmade woodcut print of original artwork on fine kitakata printmaking paper, done with oil-based etching ink.

The print depicts a scene from the Norse Eddas, where the gods, fearing Fenrir's strength, decide to bind him with a magical ribbon crafted by the dwarves from the sound of a cat's footsteps, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the breath of a fish, and the spittle of a bird. Fenrir only agrees to be chained as a test of his strength if one of the gods places their hand in his mouth as a pledge of trust. Tyr bravely steps forward, knowing the danger, and ultimately pays the price of his right hand.

Tyr, or Tiu, is the god of courage, justice, and war. His namesake, from Tiusday, gives us Tuesday. His one hand symbolizes the victory offered only to one side in battle.

- Signed and limited to 26 prints.
- The approximate dimensions of the artwork is 19x22cm on a 24x27cm sheet.
